AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION ONE OF REPUBLIC ACT NUMBERED TWO THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED FIVE, ENTITLED "AN ACT PRESCRIBING THE DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS, AND FIXING THE NUMBER AND SALARIES, OF THE MEMBERS OF THE LEGAL STAFF IN THE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF JUSTICE."





Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled:

SECTION 1. Section one of Republic Act Numbered Two thousand seven hundred five is hereby amended to read as follows:

"SECTION 1. In the performance of his duties as Attorney General of the Philippines and asex officiolegal adviser of government-owned and controlled corporations or enterprises, the Secretary of Justice shall be assisted by a legal staff which shall have one chief to be known as Department Legal Counsel whose salary shall be eight thousand nine hundred forty pesosper annum,and two assistant chiefs each of whom shall receive a salary of eight thousand eight hundred eighty pesosper annum,four senior special attorneys, each of whom shall receive a salary of eight thousand four hundred pesosper annum,and twenty special attorneys whose salaries shall be as follows:

"(a) Four special attorneys at seven thousand eight hundred pesosper annumeach;
"(b) Four special attorneys at seven thousand two hundred pesosper annumeach
"(c) Four special attorneys at six thousand six hundred pesosper annumeach;
"(d) Four special attorneys at six thousand pesosper annumeach;
"(e) Four special attorneys at four thousand eight hundred pesosper annumeach."The qualifications for appointment to the position of chief of legal staff and those of assistant chief shall be the same as those prescribed for assistant solicitors general, and those of senior special attorneys and special attorneys shall be the same as those prescribed for solicitors in the Office of the Solicitor General."In the Interest of greater efficiency in the discharge of the functions of the office, the Attorney General's Legal Staff may, in the discretion of the department head, be organized into two divisions which shall be headed by the two assistant chiefs who shall be known as chief special attorneys and shall be assisted by the senior special attorneys as assistant chiefs of their respective divisions."
SEC. 2. In addition to such sums as may have been provided in the current Appropriation Act, there is hereby appropriated out of any funds in the National Treasury not otherwise appropriated, such sums as are necessary to carry out the provisions of this Act. Henceforth, appropriations to cover salaries of the legal staff as herein provided shall be carried in the annual General Appropriation Act.SEC. 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.Enacted, without Executive approval, June 18,1961.
