PROCLAMATION NO. 488 DECLARING THE MONTH OF MARCH OF EVERY YEAR AS "NATIONAL ENGINEERING MONTH" March 11, 2024

WHEREAS,Section 17, Article II of the Constitution provides that the State shall give priority to education, science and technology, arts, culture, and sports to foster patriotism and nationalism, accelerate social progress, and promote total human liberation and development;

WHEREAS,the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization designated March 4 of every year as "World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development" to celebrate engineering and the contribution of engineers for a better and sustainable world;

WHEREAS,the celebration of the National Engineering Month will encourage the youth to pursue a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, increase public awareness on the value of engineers, engineering technologists and technicians in nation-building and development, ensure the sufficiency of engineering and technological professionals in the country, and celebrate the unique roles of engineers in the implementation of new technologies and the application of science and technology;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND R. MARCOS, JR.,President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution and existing laws, do hereby declare the month of March of every year as "National Engineering Month."

For this purpose, the Professional Regulatory Boards of Engineering, including Aeronautical Engineering, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Geodetic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, under the Professional Regulation Commission, shall lead, coordinate, and supervise the observance of National Engineering Month, and identify the programs, projects, and activities for the yearly celebration thereof.

All other national government agencies and instrumentalities, including government-owned or -controlled corporations, government financial institutions, and state universities and colleges, are hereby directed, and all local government units and the private sector are hereby encouraged, to render the necessary support and assistance for the effective implementation of this Proclamation.
